VEI was founded in 1981 in Valdez, Alaska. It was incorporated under the name Valdez Engineering. Founding partners were Robert Eder, John Vogt, and Maurice Wilson. Mr. Wilson established a branch office in Wasilla in 1982. In 1985, Valdez Engineering joined forces with a one-man sanitary engineering firm, Entech Engineers, owned by Vernon Roelfs. In 1988, VEI consolidated its offices, moved to Anchorage and simplified its name to VEI Consultants. Over the next few years, Mr. Wilson retired and Mr. Vogt sold his portion of the business. In 2003 Mr. Eder retired to part-time status. Today, VEI is operated by remaining partner,Vern Roelfs. VEI's main office is located near the intersection of Bragaw and DeBarr, where it has been for the past 20 years.
Vern Roelfs, PE, the current owner is both a professional engineer and a licensed surveyor registered in Alaska. He actively participates in and oversees all of the firms' projects. Vern, a civil/sanitary engineer, has 33 years of experience, with 28 of those years in Alaska.
